National Spokesman
A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Michael Meyer joined The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes in 2005 after a distinguished four-year tenure as executive director of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Foundation. During that time, he helped raise $31 million in goods and services for the organization, including launching its Unmet Needs Program to provide support for distressed military families. For his efforts, he earned the U.S. Air Force’s Civilian Impact Award in 2004, among its highest honors presented to civilian personnel.
Meyer’s humanitarian work began in 1995 when he served as a senior team leader for a major airlift conducted by Heart to Heart International that brought $7.5 million worth of medicine to Vietnam. Subsequently, he created Uplift International that partnered with Federal Express over a five-year period to make additional deliveries to Vietnam of medicine and medical equipment provided by Project Hope. Today, Meyer serves on the board of directors of the Library Project of Vietnam that has used funding from Rotary Clubs and other service organizations to construct more than three dozen libraries across Southeast Asia, including one that was built in 2010 on the site of the 1968 My Lai massacre.
