Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes™ Applauds President’s Announcement to Create Joint Virtual Lifetime Records
Veteran’s charity supports Obama administration’s announcement of plan to streamline and modernize administrative and health care system available to wounded veterans
OSSINING, NY – April 9, 2009 – The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes, a non-partisan, non-profit service organization dedicated to helping severely wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families rebuild their lives, issued the following statement after President Barack Obama announced his plan to streamline and modernize the administrative and health care system available to wounded veterans:
“We at the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes are thrilled to see that the new administration is already making strides to improve the current situation of America’s wounded veterans.
Thanks to advancements in modern healthcare, more troops are coming home injured and disabled than ever before. Today, of the 1.6 million troops that have been deployed to fight in the War on Terror, more than 33,000 have returned severely wounded. As such, the Veterans Administration is overwhelmed and too many wounded servicemen and women are waiting up to 18 months for their benefits to kick in.
Any measure the federal government takes to make it easier for these American heroes to access proper health care must be supported, and President Obama’s plan to deliver a ‘streamlined transition of health care records’ is a step forward in the right direction.
The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes looks forward to continuing to work with the Department of Defense, the VA and all Americans to provide the necessary assistance that our nation’s severely wounded veterans and troops deserve.”
