The event will run from Sunday, Dec. 7 through Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort in Orlando, Florida.
The event will be hosted by The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes which is a 501 (c)(3), non partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to helping the severely wounded troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families rebuild their lives. Since its 2004 inception, CSAH hasprovided more than $11 million in emergency aid, assisting severely wounded troops and their families more than 6,300 times.
This is the 5th Annual Road to Recovery Conference that the Coalition to Salute America’s has held and they are doing this because more than 31,000 American troops have returned home from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom severely wounded. These veterans and their families struggle to heal from physical and mental wounds, pay for medical and other bills, and re-enter civilian life. Nearly 20 percent of returning American troops suffers from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Only about half the servicemen and women with PTSD seek treatment – many do not out of fear it might hurt their careers in the military. Fifty-two percent of those suffering from PTSD are not getting the medical care they need.
The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes encourages all men and women of uniform who were severely wounded while serving in Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and who are in need of assistance to call 888-44-SALUTE (888-477-2588) or e-mail info@saluteheroes.org.
